Know the Scams Before They Know You
Our programme covers the five major scam categories targeting Malaysians.
Macau Scam & Authority Impersonation
Callers pose as PDRM, LHDN, BNM, MACC, or court officials to frighten victims into transferring money. Malaysia's #1 scam by volume — 28,698 cases and RM715M lost in 2025.
Red Flags
- Caller claims you have a warrant or tax debt
- Demands secrecy from family
- Asks you to install a remote-access app
WhatsApp & AI Voice Cloning
Scammers clone profiles and use AI voice technology to impersonate family members — just 3 seconds of audio creates an 85% voice match. AI voice scams surged 442% in 2025.
Red Flags
- Message from a "new number" requesting money
- Voice message sounds right but call goes unanswered
- Urgent "emergency" request with no way to verify
Investment & Crypto Fraud
Deepfake celebrity endorsements, fake trading platforms, and Telegram investment groups promising guaranteed returns. #1 scam by losses — RM1.37 billion lost in 2025.
Red Flags
- Celebrity promoting "guaranteed returns"
- Invited to a Telegram/WhatsApp investment group
- Profits show on screen but cannot be withdrawn
E-Commerce & Parcel Scams
Fake listings on Shopee, Lazada, and Facebook Marketplace — plus COD parcel scams delivering goods you never ordered. 14,881 cases in 2025, a 36.9% surge.
Red Flags
- Price too good to be true
- Seller requests direct bank transfer outside platform
- Unexpected parcel arrives with COD payment request
Job Scams & Mule Accounts
Fake part-time job offers on social media — Malaysia's fastest-growing scam (146% surge, 8,484 cases in 2025). Teens and students are recruited as money mules with serious legal consequences.
Red Flags
- Job ad promises easy money for "simple tasks"
- Asked to share bank account or open a new one
- Paid via crypto or asked to transfer funds for others
